How to Calibrate the GoDEX G500 Label Printer
Proper calibration of your GoDEX G500 label printer ensures accurate label feeding, minimizes wasted labels, and improves overall print quality. Below is a straightforward, step-by-step guide to help you properly calibrate your G500 printer.
Why Calibration Matters
Calibration enables the printer to detect the correct label length and gap or black mark between labels. When not calibrated, the printer may skip labels, print misaligned text or barcodes, or halt unexpectedly due to misfeeds.
Step-by-Step Calibration Process
Turn the printer off Locate the power switch at the back of the printer and switch it off. This ensures the printer starts from a “clean” state.
Press and hold the “Feed” button With the printer still off, press and hold the “Feed” button on the front panel. Keep the button pressed down.
Power the printer on While continuing to hold the “Feed” button, turn the printer on using the power switch at the back.
Release the “Feed” button when the LED flashes red As the printer starts up, you will see the LED change colors. Once it begins flashing red, release the “Feed” button.
Printer will feed a few labels The GoDEX G500 will automatically feed a few labels forward. This step indicates that the calibration process is underway and the printer is detecting label size and gap.
Calibration complete After feeding the labels, the printer will stop. Calibration is now complete, and your G500 should be ready for printing with accurate label alignment.
Tips for Successful Calibration
Use the correct label type: Ensure you are using the labels that you plan on printing with. Mixing different label sizes or types might require recalibration.
Verify sensor position: If you have moved the label gap sensor for any reason, make sure it is correctly positioned according to the manual before calibration.
Check for obstructions: Inspect the label path for any dirt, adhesive buildup, or foreign objects that might cause feeding issues.
Perform regular maintenance: Clean the printer’s thermal print head, rollers, and sensors periodically for the best performance.
Important Note for Barbell Jewelry Tags
Barbell jewelry tags do not have the gap centered under the printable area. Because of this, the label gap sensor must be repositioned before calibration.
For barbell tags:
• Move the gap sensor to the left or right, aligned with the gap or black mark on the label
• Do not leave the sensor centered under the printable area
• After adjusting the sensor position, run the calibration steps again
If the sensor remains centered, the printer may feed incorrectly, skip labels, or print misaligned content even after a successful calibration.
