Troubleshooting Tag Printer Issues

Fix Pavilion tag printer issues by checking Pavilion, QZ Tray, and hardware settings.

If your tag printer was previously working but suddenly stopped, use this guide to identify and resolve the issue. Follow the steps below in order, starting from your Pavilion Org, and moving down to QZ Tray and hardware checks.

Google Chrome (Apps on Device Permission)

If your printer was working before and suddenly stopped, this may be caused by a recent update in Google Chrome that affects device access.

1. Please make sure that the Apps on Device permission is enabled in your browser settings.

2. If you do not see this option directly, open Site settings, scroll down, and enable Apps on device from there.

After enabling this setting, refresh Pavilion and try printing again.

Pavilion

  1. Log in to Pavilion and try printing a tag.

  2. Look for the printer status light in the Tag Printing window:

    • Green means the printer is connected.

    • Red means Pavilion can’t connect to the printer. If red, check that QZ Tray is running and your printer is powered on. If it’s still red, restart QZ Tray and your browser, then try again.

  3. Confirm that the tag you want to print shows up in the Tag Printing window.

QZ Tray

1. Check that QZ Tray is installed and running in the background.

2. If QZ Tray asks for permission, click Allow.

3. If the printer light in Pavilion is still red, close and restart QZ Tray, then refresh your browser.

Your Device

1. Make sure your printer is turned on and connected to your computer.

2. Verify the printer's status on your computer:

  • For Windows:

    • Windows 10:

      1. Click the Start button and select Settings.

      2. Choose Devices, then click on Printers & scanners.

      3. Locate your printer in the list. If it's listed as "Offline," right-click on it and select See what's printing to check for any pending jobs.

    • Windows 11:

      1. Click the Start button and select Settings.

      2. Navigate to Bluetooth & devices, then click on Printers & scanners.

      3. Find your printer in the list. If it's not listed, click on Add device to search for it.

    • For Mac:

      1. Click the Apple menu and select System Settings.

      2. Choose Printers & Scanners from the sidebar.

      3. Check if your printer appears in the list. If not, click the Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax button to search for it.

      4. If your printer appears but is marked as "Idle" or "Offline," right-click (or Control-click) on it and select Reset printing system to clear any errors.

3. Check the printer queue for any stuck print jobs:

  • For Windows:

    1. Right-click on your printer in the Printers & scanners list.

    2. Select See what's printing.

    3. In the print queue window, right-click on any pending jobs and select Cancel to remove them.

  • For Mac:

    1. Select your printer in the Printers & Scanners list.

    2. Click on Open Print Queue.

    3. In the print queue window, right-click on any pending jobs and select Delete to remove them.

4. If the printer is still not responding:

  • Turn the printer off and on again.

  • Try connecting the printer to a different USB port or switch to a different cable.

  • Restart your computer to reset the connection.

Additional Step for Mac Users (Paused Printer)

If your printer appears but still won’t print, it may be paused. You can fix this using the printer’s internal web interface:

1. Open your browser and go to http://localhost:631/

2. Select Printers from the top menu.

3. Click on your tag printer’s name.

4. Open the Maintenance dropdown.

5. Click Cancel All Jobs (1) to clear any pending print jobs.

6. Click Resume Printer (2) to reactivate it.
