Pavilion categories do more than label inventory items. Categories help determine how an item is created, priced, organized, and displayed.
Use this article to understand what categories control before creating or updating inventory items.
What categories control
Pavilion categories may control:
Attributes: The specific characteristics of your products
Pricing models: How your prices are structured
Price visibility: Who can view your product pricing
Default markups: Standard pricing adjustments
Certificate component: Whether a certificate is included with the product
How categories affect inventory items
When you select a category for an inventory item, Pavilion uses that category to determine which fields and settings are available.
For example, a diamond category may show fields related to diamond attributes and certificates, while a metal wedding band category may show a different set of item attributes.
This helps keep item setup consistent across similar products.
ℹ️ To add or modify Pavilion categories, use the Pavilion Settings tool. For detailed instructions, refer to Pavilion Settings: Managing Categories.
