How do I configure the GoDEX G500 network printer?

Learn how to connect the GoDEX G500 to another computer.

Use this process to add an existing GoDEX G500 network printer to another Windows computer. Before adding the printer, collect the printer’s current IP address, port name, protocol, and port number from a computer where the printer is already working.

Check the existing printer configuration

ℹ️ If you already know your printer IP address and port, you can skip to Part B

Goal: We want to know the printer IP address and port number.

  1. On a computer where the GoDEX G500 is already connected, open Windows Settings.

  2. Go to Bluetooth & devices.

  3. Select Printers & scanners.

  4. Select the GoDEX G500 printer. The printer may appear under a different name if it was installed with the Generic/Text Only driver.

  5. Open Printer properties.

  6. Click the Ports tab.

  7. Locate the checked port.

  8. Click Configure Port.

  9. Make note of the following values:

    • Printer IP Address or hostname

    • Port Name

    • Protocol, such as Raw or LPR

    • Port Number, often 9100 for Raw printing

    • Queue Name, if LPR is used

You will use these values when adding the printer to another computer.


Add the printer to another Windows computer

  1. On the new Windows computer, open Settings.

  2. Go to Bluetooth & devices.

  3. Select Printers & scanners.

  4. Click Add device.

  5. If Windows does not find the printer automatically, click Add manually

6. Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.

7. Click Next.

8. Select Create a new port.

9. In Type of port, select Standard TCP/IP Port.

10. Click Next.

11. Enter the printer IP address and port name you noted from the existing printer.

12. Click Next.

ℹ️Use the values you noted in the Part A!

13. If Windows asks for additional port information, select Custom.

14. Click Settings.

15. Enter the port settings you noted from the existing printer:

  • Port Name

  • Printer Name or IP Address

  • Protocol

  • Port Number or Queue Name

16. Click OK.

17. On the next screen choose a “Generic” Manufacturer on the left and “Generic / Text Only” printer on the right

18. Select Generic / Text Only as the printer.

19. Click Next.

20. Name the printer GODEX G500.

21. Click Save.

⚠️Name should be exactly GODEX G500

⚠️Do not print a test page during setup. After the printer is connected to the computer, continue with the QZ Tray setup guide if needed.
