Value set entries have both a Label and a Name.
The Label is what users see in Pavilion. The Name is the system value used behind the scenes. If the name you want is already assigned to another value, you need to rename the entries in a specific order to avoid conflicts.
Example
In this example, the value set starts with:
Label: Asscher, Name: Asscher
Label: Baguette, Name: Baguette
The goal is to update the values to:
Label: Asscher, Name: Baguette
Label: Baguette, Name: BGT
Rename the value set entries
Go to Pavilion Settings.
Select the Value Sets tab.
Open the value set you want to update.
Change the Label of the value using the name you want to reuse to a temporary label.
Change the Name of the second value to a new name that is not currently used by another value. In this example, change Asscher to AsscherOld.
6. Change the Name of the second value to a new name that is not currently used by another value. In this example, change the Name for Baguette to BGT.
7. In the inactive section, open the value with the Name you want to reuse.
In this example, open the value with Name: Baguette.
8. Update the Label to the correct final label. In this example, change the Label to Asscher.
9. Click Save.
10. Deactivate the temporary value.
11. When the deactivation window opens, select Replace value on records with.
12. Choose the newly updated value.
13. Click Yes to confirm and apply the change.
Result
The value set now contains:
Label: Asscher, Name: Baguette
Label: Baguette, Name: BGT
The name conflict is resolved without losing existing record references.
